Olympic Green Tennis Center is officially delivered on National Day
(BEIJING, October 1) -- A ceremony to deliver the Olympic Green Tennis Center was held at the recently completed venue Monday morning amid National Day celebrations in Beijing.
The tennis center's uniquely shaped main court and No. 1 and No. 2 courts (they look like flowers from a distance) will hold the Good Luck Beijing 2007 ITF Pro Circuit from October 6 to 20. Eighty tennis players from 13 countries will compete.
With 10 competition courts, the venue covers a ground area of 16.68 hectares and has a building area of 26,514 square meters. The main venue will hold the final matches and has seating capacity for 10,000 spectators. The No. 1 court can hold 4,000 spectators, and the No. 2 court can hold 2,000 spectators.
The gray finish of the venue's bare cement building surfaces exemplifies the harmony between architecture and nature, according to the lead designer for China State Construction International Shenzhen Design Consulting Company, Ltd -- the construction management group for the Olympic Green Tennis Center project.
Natural ventilation, heat preservation technology, heat recycling, the use of environment-friendly refrigerants, solar energy, a ground source heat pump, a zero-discharge sewage treatment system, and other advanced technologies make the tennis center a cost and energy-efficient venue that reflects the concept of a "Green Olympics."
The Olympic Green Tennis Center also incorporates many qualities of a "People's Olympics." In terms of the environment, ventilation, temperature, the water supply, fire prevention, etc, the venue's designers considered the needs of the athletes, coaches and referees as well as the needs of people with a disability.
Next year, the Olympic Tennis and Paralympic Wheelchair Tennis competitions will be held at the Olympic Green Tennis Center.
