(Beijing, October 18) In today's men's singles quarterfinals of the 2007 ITF Pro Circuit Week 2 Amir Weintraub of Israel, No. 3 seed at the tournament, beat China's Gong Maoxin 2-0 to advance to the semifinals. The scores of the two sets were 6-4 and 6-3 respectively.

Both players were affected by the high wind today. Amir Weintraub got one point in his service game but lost three points in a row on four double faults. He then adjusted his tactics and gradually had control of the situation. The score was again tied after the eighth game. Following that, Gong Maoxin made mistakes and soon lost the set 6-4.

Despite losing his first service game Amir Weintraub secured his win from the second game on a number of errors by the Chinese player. Gong showed his strength by serving four aces in the second set but eventually failed to outplay his Israeli opponent with 6-3.

Amir Weintraub will be pitted against Phillip King of the United States in tomorrow's semifinals.
