(Beijing, October 18) The competition of the 2007 ITF Pro Circuit Week 2 continued at the Olympic Green Tennis Center on October 18, with winners from the four quarterfinal matches qualifying for the semifinals scheduled for tomorrow. Seventh-seeded Sun Peng became the only player from the host team to make the semis.

In the first 1/4 final match held at the central court this morning, Sun Peng gave full play to his skills and beat Lu Hao in straight sets. Lu, playing on a wild card, ended his Beijing tourney with his 6-2, 6-4 defeat.

Lu Hao got his service game at the beginning of the first set. From the second game on Sun Peng demonstrated his strength by serving two aces and scored three points in a row. It only took Sun 24 minutes to finish the first set with 6-2, with only three unforced errors. Compared with Sun, Lu committed as many as 18 unforced errors.

In the second set, Lu launched unexpected attack from the baseline, which proved effective. Due to poor physical ability, however, Lu failed to turn the table after 4-4 in the eighth game and soon conceded the following two games and the set 6-4.

Sun Peng's next opponent will be Korea's Jun Woong-Sun who had outplayed Simon Rea of New Zealand in the quarterfinals.

In other two quarterfinal matches held today, American Phillip King beat China's Wang Yu, while No. 3 seed, Amir Weintraub of Israel, eliminated another Chinese player Gong Maoxin, with the identical score of 2-0.

In tomorrow's semifinals Phillip King will take on Amir Weintraub, while Jun Woong-Sun will meet Sun Peng.
