Phillip King and Sun Peng to vie for men's singles title

(Beijing, October 19) In today's two men's singles semifinal matches of the 2007 ITF Pro Circuit Week 2, No. 5 seed Phillip King of the United States beat No. 3 Amir Weintraub of Israel, while Sun Peng of China edged Jun Woong-Sun of Korea, both in straight sets, to advance to the final.

Both players did exceptionally well today though with a high errors rate due to the high wind, 21 by Phillip King and 36 by Amir Weintraub respectively. During the 75-minute match, Phillip King got three service breaks and took the first set 7-5 on his opponent's two double faults.

After dropping his first service in the second set, Phillip King launched attacks and managed to reduce his errors. After the 10th game the score was tied again. In the following game Phillip King scored again and successfully got another service break to clinch the set 7-5 and the match 2-0.

Sun Peng vs Jun Woong-Sun 2-0

Korea's Jun Woong-Sun had set his sights on the gold medal after eliminating Simon Rea of New Zealand in yesterday's quarterfinals. However, in his semifinal against Sun Peng today, Jun Woong-Sun suffered a setback because of too many errors.

Although 10 games were contested in the first set, Sun Peng made quick work of it in a matter of 36 minutes. In the second set, Jun Woong-Sun put up tight defense from the baseline but still failed to hold his service in the third game. In the fourth game, Sun went to to score one more point by winning his service, thus securing his win with 6-3.

As a result, No. 7 seed Sun Peng outplayed No. 4 Jun Woong-Sun to qualify for the final, where he will fight against Phillip King from the United States for the men's singles title.
