(Beijing, October 20) October 20 is the last day of competition of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 ITF Pro Circuit Week 2, which drew an increased number of spectators to the Olympic Green Tennis Center. Fortunately, yesterday's high wind that had more or less affected the players' performance stopped. In today's men's singles final between Phillip King of the United States and Sun Peng of China, fifth seed Phillip King successfully outplayed seventh seed Sun in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) to clinch the title in 67 minutes.

In the first set, Phillip King made short work of the first three games to lead 2-1 in 12 minutes. In the fourth game Sun Peng trailed at first but seized chances to score three points in a row. In the eighth game Sun played to Phillip King's backhand with a successful net interception and then delivered a cross shot to the opposite baseline to turn the score 4-4.

Phillip King led 5-4 after the ninth game. The 10th saw Sun Peng hitting hard from both sides. Unfortunately he failed to deliver a flip stroke over the net, which could have caught his opponent unprepared. Sun lost the set 6-4.

Phillip King opened the score in the second set. In his return of service in the second game the ball he hit was so fast and twisted that Sun could hardly get it but sent it all the way onto the stands. In the third game, despite the fact that Sun failed to score any point the spectators applauded his performance as he twice dived to save the ball. In the fourth, Sun soon lost his service after a double fault. With the American player leading 4-0, the spectators enthusiastically cheered Sun on and finally Sun got his service in the sixth game, 1-5.

In the last game, Sun adopted a net play but Phillip King strengthened his baseline attack and eventually took the set 6-1.

After the match, a happy Phillip King hit the ball onto the sky to celebrate his win. So far the 2007 ITF Pro Circuit came to an end, with American Phillip King winning the men's singles title, followed by China's Sun Peng.
